October 1 st: 2004:Project Commencement.
Project HAZTRAIN begins and will run for 24 months with a completion date of September 30th, 2006 when the final product will be launched in each region.
November 26th and 27th, 2004: First HAZTRAIN Transnational Meeting, in Cork.
The first HAZTRAIN meeting was successfully held in Cork with all partners attending. It was a busy meeting with several presentations by partners on Hazardous Waste Management Issues in their regions. CTC outlined the Hazardous Waste Identification Tool (HWIT) upon which the project is based. A full programme of activity and work schedule was developed and all partners returned home with a clear picture of what the project is about and what tasks are required before next meeting in May, 2005.
May 23rd and 24th, 2005: Second HAZTRAIN Transnational Meeting, in Pezinok, Slovakia
The second HAZTRAIN meeting was held in Pezinok, Slovakia and provided a useful platform for partners to assess the current progress of the project and plan future actions. Each partner outlined the activities in their region and progress reports were given by all. Key project elements such as the Website, the Hazardous Waste Identification Tool (HWIT), Administration and Financial Issues, Training/Guidance Elements, Dissemination and Quality Control were discussed in detail. A demonstration of the website was given as well as the beta version of the HWIT that has been developed. Each partner presented the draft version of the training products that they have already written. Useful feedback was given on all presentations. Future immediate actions by all partners were agreed.
May 25th, International HAZTRAIN Workshop, Bratislava, Slovakia
As part of the 1st Biennial TENVORS international conference, HAZTRAIN hosted a workshop to interested international delegates on the project, its aims/objectives and outlining current progress. Chaired by Tadhg Coakley of the Clean Technology Centre, there were 3 main presentations: An Introduction to HAZTRAIN by Tadhg Coakley, Clean Technology Centre, Ireland; Classifying Hazardous Waste the European way - A short guideline Henrik Wejdling, DAKOFA, Denmark; Demonstration of beta version of the hazardous waste identification tool Ian Flude, LKT, Austria. These were followed by useful discussions and feedback, especially from the perspective of Slovakia. In all the Workshop provided a very useful platform for dissemination and a method for quality control and relevance to about 50 delegates from Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Georgia, Ireland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the UK.
