Mission

The mission of HAZTRAIN is to develop a web based product that

  • identifies hazardous components of waste and also
  • provides users with a training/guidance package on several aspects of hazardous waste management

These tools are being developed according to best practice principles and in line with national policies and programmes in 8 Member States – Ireland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain (The Basque Country).
HAZTRAIN will be flexible in nature, with a number of modular components that are independent. Thus waste producers and regulators will be able to utilise the modules or elements of the programme that they need, when they need them.
The project commenced on October 1st, 2004 and will run for 24 months with a completion date of September 30th, 2006 when the final product will be launched in each region. Current actions include the development of the web platform, the writing of the training products, the adaptation of the tool to the web format, and the adaptation of the Irish tool to each region’s requirements. This will be followed by a piloting/testing and feedback phase from potential users and all relevant stakeholders in each region, leading to further adaptation, improvement and eventual completion in less than 2 years.
The whole process aims to ensure that in HAZTRAIN, the project team will have created an innovative, user-friendly, effective, state-of-the-art and transferable environmental product that will be widely utilised and disseminated in 8 regions across Europe.
